Salmon river Tungufljot
River Tungufljot is located
100 km South East of Reykjavík. The river is rated as a large
river on the Icelandic standard.
The
Tungufljot river system is also one of the
biggest in Iceland. It consists of the main river which is in
total about 30 km long, three attractive tributaries which joins
the main river on the upper part, plus several other lesser
important tributaries and sight streams. The
Tungufljot has very stable water level for the
river is mainly spring fed.
The total catch 2009 was approx 1.151 salmon.
River
Tungufljot is an extremely scenic river and the
river side Flora is magnificent. The river has everything to
offer to the fly fishermen such as long slow moving flats,
waterfalls, fast streams and many islands.
River
Tungufljot is located only an hour away from
Reykjavík. The river is divided into two beats, each beat fished
with four rods at a time. Private self catering lodges are
available for the main beat located below waterfall called Faxi.
The lodges are located just a few meters from
the river bank. Each lodge has
all
major facilities to offer such as two double
bedrooms, shower, hot & cold water, heating system
and living room with TV and radio as well as
veranda with Jacuzzi and gas barbeque.
Bed & breakfast accommodation as well as hotels offering full
board services are also located in the nearby area.
