Salmon & arctic char river Sog

River Sog is the largest spring fed river of Iceland and originates in Lake Thingvallavatn. Total length is 19km, but 12km are passable for salmon.
The river is renowned for its idyllic surroundings and famous for good sized salmon & arctic char.

In April & May (before the main salmon season) the river is open for arctic char fishing.

The Sog has in total six separate salmon beats. The beats are Alvidra, Asgardur and Bildsfell, each fished with three rods at a time. All three beats including separate comfortable self-catering lodges. The fourth beat is called Tannastadir and fished with two rods at a time, as well including private self catering lodge.

The Thrastarlundur beat is fished with one rod at a time. No lodging included

Sydri Bru, the upper most beat is as well fished with only one rod at a time, including comfortable private self catering lodge.

Fly fishing as well as spinning has frequently been the most rewarding technique.

Anglers can buy permits on the river for one day at a time.
