Sea trout river Varma

River Varma has frequently been among the top sea-trout rivers in Iceland in number of fish caught. The river is small and relatively easy to fish with abundant fishing spots. Short pools with fast streams and meadows as well as rapids and waterfalls.

Good numbers of artic char, as well as few salmon are caught every year on this productive river.  
The sea trout range in size from 1 to 8 pounds with a few larger ones landed each season and the arctic char range in size is commonly 2 to 4 pounds. 
The name Varma, means warm river. The favorable temperature is caused by blending with geothermal water.
 

Location: 45 km. east of Reykjavik
Fishing season: April 1st to October 20th,  
Prime time: April, May, August, September, October. 
Permits available at a time: 4
Fly fishing only, catch & release.
Permits are sold on daily basis.
Tackle: Single handed rods. Line weight 4-8
Best flies: Nymphs, Dry Flies, Wet Flies and Streamers
