Salmon & trout fishing area Jökla
The
Jökla salmon & trout fishing area is a combined fishery involving five
rivers located in north east of Iceland. The rivers are
Fögruhlíđará, Kaldá, Laxá, Fossá as well as the Jökla river.
It only takes about five minutes to
drive from one river to the other.
The five rivers are very stable in terms of water level.
A smolt rearing and releasing program has been in place for few
years now, and is meant to enhance the run of wild fish and
bring the overall salmon stock to more abundance. The program is
working very well and the productivity has constantly been
increasing.
River
Fögruhlíđará is as well one of Iceland’s most consistent and
excellent sea char rivers.
The salmon arrive in late July, but before that, good trout
fishing can be expected at various localities in this vast area.
This season (2011) the catch was total 564 salmon plus
good numbers of sea char & trout.
The Jökla full service lodge is totally rebuilt and refurnished with nice
sitting and dinning room with fire-place, tackle room and more.
On the veranda connected to the main house are three new smaller
houses, each with two en-suite twin bedrooms.
