Brown trout
river Galtalaekur
This small, sensitive,
gin clear stream
is only 3 km long. Despite the diminutive size,
this little gem produces brown trout in size range from 1 pound
up to 10+, with the average size range of 3 pounds.
Fast flowing pocket water and series of small waterfalls and
rapids are ideally suited for upstream nymphing as well as
fishing with dry flies.
River Galtalaekur has been catch and release now for many years
and without a doubt that is one of the reasons why this little
river holds its good size brown trout.
River Galtalaekur is the tributary of the salmon river
West Ranga and big brownie monsters are often caught on the
junction pool of the two rivers. Just above the junction there
are beautiful areas with lots of waterfalls with good looking
pools below. Also, anglers are free to walk from the junction
pool down the main river and search for brownies.
