River Bruara is the second largest spring fed river of the
country.
Its name is derived from a former natural stone arch across it.
The river is approx 38 km in length and tributes to the glacial
river Hvita.
Its sources are numerous cold springs located beyond the
Bruararskord canyons
which are among the most beautiful natural phenomena in Iceland.
The best fishing spots are located 4 km to the north and 2 km to
the south of the bridge across the river north of the historical
site
Skalholt.
River Bruara is ideally suited for
upstream nymphing as well as fishing with
streamers.
The catch is arctic char and late summer occasional salmon.
River Bruara is located approx 85 km east of Reykjavik.
